Traditional Wedding Anniversary Gift Ideas For the First 7 Years

Wedding anniversaries are wonderful times in a relationship for you to get to show the person you are in love with, how much you have appreciated their time spent with you. Committing yourself to someone over many years requires a lot of give and take and you get to celebrate this time every year with gifts that are appropriate. The gifts you decide to give will depend on the persons likes and dislikes as well the traditional theme set forth.

Anniversary gifts are grouped based on the length of time you've been with the person. If it's the first anniversary then it is traditionally celebrated with paper. This means your gift should be made of paper. A pack of cards with a special message; a newspaper from the date the wedding occurred; paper flowers you made or you bought and a handwritten letter expressing how you feel.

The second anniversary is traditionally celebrated with cotton or straw. It's probably hard to come up with a gift made of straw but you can decide to spend a weekend in a straw hut somewhere if you want to be extravagant or give a signature hat made of straw. But cotton is also a second anniversary theme idea and you can give any appropriate gift made of cotton such as a handmade cotton sweater with appropriate writings.

The third year is generally celebrated with leather and for this you could give a leather photo album or a leather memorabilia that documents your time with each other. You could also get leather furniture for the guys whose wives have been longing to upgrade the furniture in the house. Leather is the theme here and anything leather tend to go with this theme.

The fourth year is traditionally celebrated with fruit, flowers or linen. Take your pick or use all categories. You can send a basket of fruit to his or her workplace with a handwritten note expressing how you feel. You can also complement the fruit with flowers that expresses love and commitment. And you may use linen gifts such as a linen suit or dress.

The fifth year is traditionally celebrated with wood and includes gifts such as wooden sculpture and other art made of wood if the person is into art. You could take the person to a museum that has a large collection of wooden sculpture and spend time learning who the artists are. You could also take a walk in a forest that has a lot of trees (that's still sticking to the theme) and enjoy a romantic time together.

The sixth year is usually celebrated with iron and includes iron fences and gates that enclose your yard. If the person is into art you may get an iron sculpture that celebrates the person's taste for sculpture. You can also get a candle holder made of iron that both of you can use to celebrate romantic moments together.

The seventh year is traditionally celebrated with wool or copper and include a wool sweater that you knitted together showing the effort you put into making this gift or one purchased with a special writing or design. If you opt for a copper gift you could choose a copper collection if the person is into collectibles. Always know your partner's likes, dislikes and interests before you decide on a gift. If you do so, you'll find that you'll give the appropriate gift that the person will truly appreciate.
